Conceptualization
The idea began with a vision: to design a portable hot tub that offers efficiency, sustainability, and ease of use. Initial brainstorming sessions focused on key features like energy efficiency, durability, and rapid heating. From there, I sketched out early concepts and honed in on a design centered around a radiant gas heater and convection coil heat exchange system.

Design & Prototyping
The journey of innovation spanned over five years, during which countless iterations and refinements brought the hot tub closer to perfection. Early prototypes explored various methods of heat transfer, portability, and user-friendly setups.

CAD Simulations: Advanced simulations provided insights into efficiency improvements, ensuring optimal water circulation and heat distribution.

Manufacturability and Affordability: Each design iteration was assessed for ease of production, ensuring the final product could be both cost-effective and scalable.

Prototypes were fabricated using Tube bending, 3D printing, and laser cutting, enabling real-world testing of materials and functionality.​

The design of this portable hot tub has been shaped by the requirements outlined in Section 3.10 of New Zealand’s Above-Ground Spa and Hot Tub Standards (Standards.govt.co.nz).
These standards, regarded as some of the most stringent in the world, ensure that above-ground spas and hot tubs are safe, durable, and suitable for a variety of environments.
By adhering to these regulations, the hot tub has been meticulously crafted to meet all compliance measures for above-ground heated pools in New Zealand. This includes considerations for structural integrity, water circulation, heating systems, and user safety.

These strict standards are in place for a reason: to protect users, ensure long-lasting performance, and provide a worry-free experience. I wanted this design to be safe to use anywhere, anytime, whether it’s in a backyard, at a campsite, or in an off-grid location.
